'Searching For an Annual Salary Starting at $30 Million' – Brooklyn Nets’ Free Agent Guard Compares Himself to Other NBA Stars

Cam Thomas is one of the few players who remain unsigned in the free agency market. The Brooklyn Nets don’t see a future in the star guard. Thomas, on the other hand, believes he can be a star and deserves a bigger payday this summer. This is why the contract talks between the two have been stagnant, and both parties have not agreed to anything yet.

The Nets believe they are better off with Thomas playing for a different team. They are hoping to sign him to a team-friendly contract to facilitate a sign-and-trade. But the 6-foot-4 guard wants a deal that could almost reach up to $40 million a year.

Thomas has a lot of potential to be a star. However, he hasn’t proven that he’s worth giving a contract that’s close to at least $30 million annually. Still, he’s sticking to what he believes in and wants a big payday this summer.

On Monday, Lucas Kaplan of NetsDaily revealed that the Brooklyn Nets’ free agent sees himself as a better player than Jalen Green and Tyler Herro.

“One league source told NetsDaily where Thomas sees his market, using comparable players around the league: Jalen Green, making $33.3 million per year until 2027-28, when he has a $36 million player option…Immanuel Quickley, making $32.5 million over the next four years…Tyler Herro averaging $32 million over the next two years…That’s where he sees his market, if not higher,” said the source…This suggests Thomas is searching for an annual salary starting at $30 million, likely closer to $40 million,” Kaplan wrote.

Even with that, the Nets are not budging, and it’s unlikely that he gets offered a deal similar to that.

Thomas is reportedly open to signing a $6 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets

It looks like Thomas could stay another year with the Brooklyn Nets on a short-term contract. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the team’s $6 million qualifying offer could be the only option for the guard currently. After that deal, he’s likely to demand a bigger contract from the team he’ll end up with if the Nets successfully trade him.

“Sources also say Thomas is showing an increasing interest in playing out next season on a $6 million qualifier for the right to enjoy true free agency next summer,” Fischer wrote.

Last season, the star guard was limited to 25 games due to injuries. Even though he didn’t spend enough time on the floor, Thomas averaged 24 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists on 34.9% shooting from the arc.
