Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers came down to the wire on Thursday night.

Oklahoma City was able to jump out to a quick lead early on their home court and it looked as though they were going to pick up another easy victory.

The Thunder led the entirety of the game until the Pacers were able to make another incredible comeback with Tyrese Haliburton hitting the game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds remaining as Indiana was able to shock Oklahoma City’s home crowd as they stole Game 1.

This was a crushing defeat for the Thunder as they were unable to close out Game 1 of the series at home but one player who cannot be blamed for their loss is their star point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Shai led the way for the Thunder on Thursday night as he recorded 38 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the loss.

This was yet another incredible performance by the NBA MVP as he starred in his NBA Finals debut.

With this stat line, Shai also made NBA Finals history as he joined Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson as the only players in NBA Finals history to score 35 or more points and record three or more steals in their Finals debut.

This is another historic feat by Shai, which he has had a ton of this season, but it was overshadowed by Oklahoma City’s blown lead in the fourth quarter as they let Game 1 slip away from them.

Despite this, Shai did everything he could to will the Thunder to a victory but it was not enough as they fell short.

Now Shai and the Thunder will look to bounce back in Game 2 at home on Sunday night as they try to avoid falling into a 2-0 deficit before the series shifts to Indiana.
