The Thunder star insists winning is the priority as Oklahoma City’s record-breaking start fuels NBA history talk.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are preparing to face the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Cup semifinals while continuing one of the most dominant starts the league has ever seen.

OKC crushed the Phoenix Suns by 49 points to register a franchise-record 16th straight victory, improving to 24–1 on the season. That puts the Thunder level with the Golden State Warriors for the best start through 25 games in NBA history — matching the opening pace of the 2015–16 Warriors, who famously finished 73–9.

The Thunder are not just winning — they are overwhelming opponents. Oklahoma City are outscoring teams by an average of 17.4 points per game, a margin that has naturally sparked growing discussion about whether they could surpass Golden State’s long-standing regular-season wins record.

As the speculation intensified, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was asked directly whether breaking the Warriors’ 73–9 mark matters to him and the team. The Thunder leader did not shy away from the question.

“Absolutely. Winning matters,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “And no matter what form it looks like to me. So absolutely.”

Can the Oklahoma City Thunder realistically reach 74 wins?

Based on their current pace, the Thunder are tracking toward an extraordinary 78–4 finish in the 2025–26 regular season. That projection highlights just how consistent and ruthless Oklahoma City have been, with Gilgeous-Alexander anchoring the run as both an MVP frontrunner and the league’s leading scorer.

To officially surpass the Warriors’ benchmark, OKC would need to go 51–9 across the remainder of the season. Given the level of dominance they have displayed so far, that target appears far from unrealistic.

Whether or not they ultimately reach 74 wins, the Thunder have already placed themselves firmly in the conversation with one of the greatest regular-season teams in NBA history — and, judging by their form, that conversation is only getting louder.
