Shaquille O'Neal attempts to poach Devin Booker from Nike via Instagram

Devin Booker's signature shoe is set to launch next month. The Phoenix Suns star has partnered with sneaker giant Nike as he makes his first foray into the sneaker industry. The "Nike Book 1" is intended to be both high-performance and suitable for leisure wear. Nevertheless, there have been issues with the marketing aspect of the sneaker's release date.

Currently, there has been one pre-release party held in Miami. There were 500 pairs of sneakers available. As such, some fans questioned the decision to debut Booker's sneakers in Miami, since his current fanbase is based in Phoenix. There have also been concerns regarding the potential availability, should the sneaker be a hot commodity when it launches.

Shaquille O'Neal appears to have been following Booker's ordeal closely. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers legend took to Instagram to shoot his shot at prising the Suns' star away from Nike in the near future.

"Hey @dbook. I know y’all aren’t happy with the sneaker launch," O'Neal wrote. "You should come with @reebok . We just getting started. Hit me."

Booker, 27, has spent his entire career in Phoenix. He has earned three All-Star selections while playing for the Western Conference contenders. He is also a vital part of the franchise's chances of making the NBA Finals. As such, there is likely an expectation that his debut sneaker will have a warm reception amongst his fans.

However, in order for a sneaker to be popular, it needs to appeal to the broader NBA community and the general public as well. Concerns over minimal marketing, questionable choices in where to debut the sneaker, and a limited production line will not fill Booker or Nike with significant hope of a successful launch.

O'Neal has a reputation for being a smart businessman, and he has successfully launched many of his own iconic sneakers. He was also recently made the president of Reebok's basketball division. As a former NBA star, joining O'Neal may be an enticing option for Booker in the future. Yet for now, he will likely remain with Nike and look to produce a thriving brand that broadens his brand and generates a buzz around his on-court performance.

Still, a lot hinges on how the debut sneakers are received. With only a month until launch, we won't have to wait long to find out.
