Sharpshooter Seth Curry Waived By the Golden State Warriors

Well, the basketball gods giveth, and the salary cap taketh away. In a move that feels more like a financial chess game than a basketball decision, the Golden State Warriors have waived Seth Curry. Yes, you read that right. The highly anticipated Curry brothers’ reunion in the Bay Area is on a brief, awkward pause. It is like planning a massive family holiday, and then realizing your little brother’s flight got delayed for a month due to budget cuts.

What Led To Seth Curry Being Waived?

The Warriors, hamstrung by the new, unforgiving salary cap, had to make a tough call. They’re pressed right up against the second apron, a financial “you shall not pass!” line in the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement. Keeping Seth’s veteran minimum contract on the books right now was apparently a luxury they couldn’t afford. So, for the time being, the Warriors will roll with a 14-man roster, leaving that 15th spot empty and whispering, “Come back soon, Seth.”

The whole situation is a bit comical. Seth has been a fixture at the team’s facility, grinding in workouts and even joining them on their lone October road trip. He’s been a part of the team in every way except, you know, actually playing in the games. He’s been deactivated for all the preseason action, basically serving as the world’s most overqualified practice player. It’s the ultimate “we love you, but we can’t afford you… yet” relationship.

The Long Road Back To the Bay

Let’s not forget the journey the younger Curry took to get here. While his big brother Steph was busy becoming a global icon and changing the very fabric of basketball, Seth was carving out his own path. He started his career with the Warriors’ G League team in Santa Cruz, but then intentionally zigged where everyone expected him to zag. He embarked on a journeyman’s tour across the NBA, playing for a whopping 10 different teams. It was a conscious decision to escape the colossal shadow cast by his older brother and prove he belonged on his own terms.

And prove it, he did. Seth has become one of the most lethal sharpshooters in the league. With a career 43.3% clip from behind the arc on 945 made threes, he sits seventh all-time in three-point percentage. That’s not just “good for a Curry”; that’s elite, period. Last season with the Charlotte Hornets, he was lighting it up, shooting an incredible 45.6% from deep.

This summer, after more than a decade of charting his own course, Seth finally decided the time was right to join Steph. The dream of playing together on the biggest stage was finally within reach. This procedural waiving is just a temporary detour. The plan is firmly in place: once the financial dust settles in early November, Seth Curry is expected to re-sign and officially join the roster.

So, while it’s a strange and slightly frustrating start, the Curry-Curry backcourt is still on the horizon. For now, Seth is technically a free agent, arguably the most attractive shooter on the market. But let’s be real—other teams can call, but it feels like his heart and his next contract are already waiting for him in San Francisco. The family reunion is just postponed, not canceled.
