The Lakers want certainty. That’s usually the goal. Reliable pieces. Proven fits.
Players you can count on deep into the season and, more importantly, into the playoffs.
But sometimes, the path forward isn’t that clean. Enter Kristaps Porzingis.
According to Jason Burgos of Sportsnaut, Porzingis could be an intriguing “affordable risk with upside” this offseason. That’s the key phrase. Risk. Because there’s plenty of it.
The talent has never really been in question.
At his best, Porzingis stretches the floor, protects the rim and fits seamlessly alongside a ball-dominant star. He showed that during his time with Luka Doncic in Dallas, and again during a strong run with Boston that ended in a title.
That version of Porzingis? Every contender would take it. The problem is availability.
Injuries have followed him throughout his career, and this past season was no different. He appeared in just 15 games after a midseason move, another reminder that relying on him comes with real uncertainty.
Still, the fit in Los Angeles is easy to picture.
A lob threat. A floor spacer. A big who can operate in pick-and-roll and still protect the rim on the other end. On paper, it checks out.
Reality is a little more complicated. If the Lakers are serious about chasing upside, Porzingis makes sense. If they’re prioritizing dependability, he probably doesn’t.
That’s the gamble, and it’s one Los Angeles will have to decide if it’s willing to take.
