Should The Warriors Trade Draymond Green?

While Stephen Curry and Draymond Green continuously reiterate how the Golden State Warriors shouldn't make a trade to mortgage their future, perhaps they could make a bold move to improve it.

During a segment on 95.7 The Game's Steiny and Guru show, a veteran NBA radio host detailed why a Green trade - controversial as it might be - would benefit the Warriors.

Initially, when Green signed his 4-year $100 million contract, it didn't seem like a deal that would age well. However, despite the inefficient offense, the Warriors boast a top-10 defense, largely thanks to Green's production.

Should the Warriors dangle Green in a trade, it could be that they'd likely net a significant asset in return.

Amid a complicated CBA, which punishes teams for "larger" contracts, perhaps Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy swapping Green's earnings for a future asset would open up the opportunity to acquire a younger, dynamic talent.

Brian Geltzeiler, host on NBA XM Radio and contributor at NBA TV, mentioned the idea of the Warriors trading Green.

"If the Warriors wanted to trade Draymond Green, there'd be a market," Geltzeiler said. "You'd bring in a first-round pick... [Golden State] went wrong in different spots, but Draymond's contract is not one of them."

Where would Green go in a trade, especially in exchange for a relevant first-round pick?

Teams such as the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, and the Los Angeles Lakers would benefit from a Green addition and have the draft capital to make such a deal.

Another conversation is whether the Warriors would blow up the last remnants, at least regarding players, of the original championship crew. However, if the Warriors genuinely want to improve their future, letting go of the past while understanding their present dilemma means making an emotional sacrifice.
