The 76ers are weighing trade options for veterans Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr., according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
“There has been buzz all summer long about the Sixers looking to potentially move one of, if not both, Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre,” Fischer said.
Moving either player would create more flexibility to re-sign restricted free agent Quentin Grimes. Drummond is on the books for $5 million this season, while Oubre will make $8.4 million.
“If they are able to find a deal for one of those two guys as we get closer to camp, that would open up some more wiggle room for Philadelphia to be able to pay Grimes a little bit more,” Fischer noted.
Grimes, acquired from Dallas in February, impressed after joining Philadelphia, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 28 games.
He shot 46.9 percent from the floor and 37.3 percent from deep. The 25-year-old guard has until October 1 to sign his $8.7 million qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The Sixers, who went 24-58 last season, struggled to keep their stars healthy. Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey played just 15 games together, going 7-8 in those contests.
Philadelphia’s roster decisions in the coming weeks will shape how they approach the season — whether that means keeping veterans like Drummond and Oubre or shifting more resources toward a younger piece in Grimes.
