Sixers star Joel Embiid signs supermax contract extension

Joel Embiid isn't leaving the 76ers for a very, very long time.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported Tuesday morning the forward is finalizing a four-year extension worth $196 million that will keep him in Philly until the 2026-27 season.

The new deal "includes a player option for the final year," Shelburne reported, but "does not include the same provisions protecting the Sixers in case of catastrophic injury to Embiid's lower back or feet, like the five-year, $147.7 million deal he signed in 2017."

Embiid, 27, has registered 24.8 points and 11.3 rebounds over his career, all spent with the 76ers.
