'So he was there in all of his glory' - Mark Madsen on the time Shaquille O'Neal showed up naked to practice

There's no question Shaquille O'Neal is one of the funniest men alive. Whether in "Inside the NBA," guest appearances in other shows, or random encounters, The basketball lagend can make even the saddest person in the world smile. His antics are not just for show. 

Even when the camera is not on, the New Jersey native shows off his funny side. Shaq's former teammates were on the front row whenever "Big Diesel" decided to go crazy.

Running late

Legendary head coach Phil Jackson had an ironclad rule about being on time for the center huddle. One time, the 2000 NBA MVP had not put any clothes on as the team prepared to huddle up. To adhere to Phil's policies, the "Big Aristotle" walked out naked.

"Shaq walked onto the court, put his hands up and said 'I'm ready to practice,'" Mark Madsen, who was O'Neal's teammate from 2000 to 2003, per the Orange County Register. "He had not one inch of clothing on. So he was there in all of his glory."

While Madsen had a light-hearted memory of the crazy incident, things were quite the opposite for Rick Fox.

"I'm just scarred by the one where he ran out into the middle of the court naked before practice," said Fox, who played with O'Neal from 1997 to 2004. "I can't get that image out of my mind."

According to former Lakers point guard Derek Fisher, Shaq also ran around the court and tried to hug his teammates. Everybody ran away as fast as they could from the center — which proved helpful later on.

"That's' why when I hit that shot in San Antonio in 2004, that's why we were so good at sprinting off of the court," said Fisher.

Nasty prank

Being chased by a naked big man seems tame in comparison to what rookies had to endure under O'Neal. Gary Payton said the LSU standout had a nasty way of hazing rookies. It's hilarious for spectators. It's downright disgusting for the victims.

"Shaq is a jokester, so if one of the rookies was in a stall, he would take a bucket and use the bathroom in it for about a week, then all of a sudden he'd pour it on them," said Payton an appearance at Vlad TV podcast.

The incidents show that becoming teammates with Shaq is a bittersweet experience. There will be lots of laughs and championships, but you better have eyes on the back of your head for his tricks.
