The Cleveland Cavaliers remain interested in unrestricted free agent Malik Beasley, a source confirmed to DallasHoopsJournal.
Shams Charania of ESPN was first to report on the Cavaliers’ continued interest in Beasley.
The Cavaliers, or any team, can’t sign Beasley until the NBA finishes its investigation into the veteran. Investigators are focusing on a handful of games during Beasley’s tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023-24 season because at least one prominent U.S. sportsbook detected unusually heavy betting interest in Beasley’s statistics.
Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocks for the Detroit Pistons last season while shooting 43.0% from the field, 41.6% from beyond the arc and 67.9% from the free-throw line. He played in all 82 games.
A Florida State product, Beasley has played for the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Bucks and Pistons. He has career averages of 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.1 blocks in the NBA.
Beasley entered the NBA in 2016 with the Nuggets. He’s one of the top shooters in the league.
The Cavaliers were the No. 1 seed in the East last season. They swept the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round in five games.
Cleveland hasn’t advanced past the second round of the playoffs since 2018. The team opens the 2025-26 season against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. It will be fascinating to see if Malik Beasley is a member of the Wine and Gold on opening night.
