Spurs Agree To Re-Sign Harrison Barnes

Free agent forward Harrison Barnes has reached an agreement on a one-year, $8MM contract to return to the Spurs, sources tell Shams Charania of ESPN ( Twitter link).

Although Barnes didn’t play a significant playoff role during San Antonio’s run to the NBA Finals, he was an important part of the team’s regular season success. The 34-year-old averaged 9.9 points per game, hit 38.8% of his three-point tries, and made 52 starts before eventually being supplanted by Julian Champagnie in the starting five.

While the Spurs value Barnes for his leadership and championship experience, he should continue to be a productive rotation player going forward and has been extremely durable since turning 30, having played in 323 out of 328 possible regular season games since the start of the 2022/23 season.

Because several of the club’s most productive players, including Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle, will still be on their rookie scale contracts in 2026/27, the Spurs still have a good deal of cap flexibility, allowing them to re-sign Barnes and give Champagnie a raise on his new three-year extension and remain well below the luxury tax line and first tax apron.

Barnes was the No. 44 free agent on our top-50 list.
