The San Antonio Spurs fell to the Sacramento Kings on Friday, losing 140-113. The Spurs and Kings season series is now 2-1 in the Spurs' favor, and not having Victor Wembanyama for the second straight game clearly took its toll. In the first two games against the Kings, Wembanyama scored 34 points in each game.
Sacramento took a lead early in the second quarter and never gave it up, leading by as much as 22 points in the final frame. The Kings' shooting was a massive factor in the game, as they simply couldn't miss from deep.
The Spurs enjoyed a 30-point effort from Julian Champagnie, which sets a new career high for the wing. He made 6-12 from 3-point range, but the Spurs as a team shot only 34.1 percent from deep, while the Kings went 47.1 percent from behind the arc.
The Kings were led by DeMar DeRozan's 23 points. Former Spur Trey Lyles didn't play thanks to a calf injury, while Doug McDermott offered three points of his own. The Kings had four players score at least 20 points.
Without Wembanyama to keep him in check, Domantas Sabonis secured 16 rebounds. Zach Collins and Charles Bassey, meanwhile, combined for only nine points and nine rebounds, although Bassey was able to swat three shots.
The Spurs dropped to under .500 for the first time since Nov. 13, although they will have a full day of rest tomorrow before a home contest against the New Orleans Pelicans, who have been ravaged by injuries this season and the Spurs will be favored.
