The San Antonio Spurs have positioned themselves for another dynastic run through the NBA in the upcoming years after drafting the past two Rookie of the Year award winners in Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.
San Antonio also owns the rights to the Nos. 2 and 14 picks in a loaded 2025 draft and is expected to select former Rutgers guard Dylan Harper immediately after the Dallas Mavericks make Duke forward Cooper Flagg the latest No. 1 overall pick on Wednesday, June 25.
The Spurs will have youth and talent across the lineup in 2025-26 and are positioned to potentially trade with the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant, who has made it clear San Antonio is his preferred destination. It remains unclear how aggressive the Spurs might be in the Durant trade talks, as he will turn 37 years old ahead of next season and doesn't necessarily fit the timeline of their other stars.
However, ESPN's Brian Windhorst predicted on Saturday that the franchise is likely to ink 27-year-old point guard De'Aaron Fox to a monster new contract this summer after trading for him during the middle of last season.
"On August 3, Fox can sign for four years and $229 million and, after trading three first-round picks for him this past February, expect the Spurs to do so," Windhorst wrote.
Fox earned All-Star honors with the Sacramento Kings during the 2022-23 campaign and has averaged 21.5 points and 6.1 assists over the course of his eight-year NBA career.
