The San Antonio Spurs and star Guard De’Aaron Fox have agreed to a 4-year $229 million extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The extension guarantees that Fox will remain in San Antonio until the end of the 2029-30 season. The team acquired the 27-year-old All-Star at the trade deadline last season.

Fox Signing Gives Spurs Boost

While Fox was only able to play 17 games with San Antonio before undergoing season-ending surgery to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie finger, the former Kings guard was still productive. Fox averaged over 20 points and 7 assists per game on 45% shooting from the field in a Spurs uniform. Although the tandem of Fox and Victor Wembanyama was limited to a total of five games played together last season, both players’ return to health gives San Antonio’s playoff hopes a significant boost.

Are the Spurs Contenders?

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the team possesses the ninth-best odds to win the Western Conference next season at +3500. Whether or not the extension of Fox and return of Wembanyama will increase oddsmakers’ overall figures, the Spurs will certainly finish with a far better record this upcoming NBA season. Expect the team to shake up the Western Conference playoff picture in 2025-26.
