The Spurs plan to sign center Bismack Biyombo for the remainder of the season once his second 10-day contract expires, sources have confirmed to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
The 32-year-old has appeared in six games since joining the Spurs on February 9, averaging 5.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 16 minutes per game.
This week, Biyombo recorded a pair of double-doubles, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday against New Orleans, followed by 10 points and 12 rebounds on Tuesday in a rematch with the Pelicans.
Biyombo has started in the past five games following the injury to Victor Wembanyama, who is sidelined with a blood clot in his right shoulder. His second 10-day contract began last Friday and will run through this Sunday.
The addition of Biyombo will provide the Spurs with a reliable presence in the middle for the remainder of the season. His wealth of playoff experience could prove valuable if San Antonio manages to make a push for the play-in tournament. However, with a 24-33 record, the Spurs currently sit five and a half games behind 10th-place Sacramento, making their postseason hopes increasingly unlikely.
Biyombo’s strong performances could also improve his chances of securing a spot on the roster for the 2025 season. The veteran center has become a journeyman in recent years, as San Antonio marks his fifth team in the last five seasons.
