Jeremy Sochan was scheduled to be one of the San Antonio Spurs players representing their country at the EuroBasket. However, he will miss the competition due to a calf injury he suffered during training camp with the Polish national team. Calf injuries usually heal within a few weeks. However, sometimes, those injuries can lead to more severe problems because the calf muscle plays a huge role in supporting the Achilles tendon. The good news for the Spurs is that Sochan should be back in time for the new season.
According to the latest reports, Jeremy Sochan is on his way to San Antonio after sustaining the calf injury with the Polish national team. Speaking about it, Sochan said he was “very disappointed” to not play for Poland at EuroBasket.
Calf injuries usually heal within a few weeks. That would put the timetable for a return by late September, which would be right in time for the start of the NBA training camp. The Spurs haven’t made the playoffs for six consecutive seasons. Next season will be Victor Wembanyama’s third in the league, and with him playing at an All-Star level, the Spurs should compete for a playoff spot. Sochan will play a role in whether or not the Spurs make the postseason. Entering his fourth year, Jeremy has grown into a valuable role player who can contribute on both ends of the floor.
The NBA training camp begins in September, with September 23rd being the first key date. That is the media day for teams traveling outside of North America for the 2025 preseason, including the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and New Orleans Pelicans. Players can report to their teams starting from that date.
From September 24th, training camp opens for teams participating in preseason games outside North America. The Spurs, as a team playing preseason games in North America, open training camp and media day on September 29th. By that time, Sochan should recover from his injury and report to the Spurs—of course, barring any setbacks.
Jeremy Sochan is a hustler and a defensive role player who holds value in the league. As a potential three-and-D player, Sochan is a nice player to have. While his three-point shot is still below average, there is time for improvement.
The Spurs have tried playing Sochan in different positions and with different lineups. Last season, he started 23 of the 54 games he played. The year before, he started 73 out of 74 games he played. His scoring average has remained almost the same for the three years he has been in the league. However, last season, he became a more efficient scorer, shooting 53.8% from the floor. He had a career low in field goal attempts, yet he averaged the same amount of points on better efficiency. If he can improve his outside shot to a respectable 36-37 percent, Sochan will be a great role player on the team.
