Spurs' Victor Wembanyama accomplishes incredible milestone vs. Nuggets

San Antonio Spurs star rookie big man Victor Wembanyama joined rarefied air Friday against the Denver Nuggets.

Wembanyama recorded his 100th three-pointer and 200th block of the season, becoming only the second player in NBA history to accomplish the feat, per NBA.com.

Raef LaFrentz was the first to do it. He recorded 104 threes and 213 blocks with the Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks in 2001-2002 but wouldn't repeat the feat over a 10-year career.

Meanwhile, Wembanyama is on pace to surpass LaFrentz's season in just his first year. To do so, he needs five three-pointers and 14 blocks over the Spurs remaining 15 games.

That wasn't the only bit of history Wembanyama made on Friday. According to Basketball Reference, he also became the first rookie to record 200 blocks in a season since the 1997-1998 campaign. The last first-year player to do it? Former Spurs star and Hall of Famer Tim Duncan.

Likewise, Wembanyama posted block No. 200 in just his 59th game. According to Spurs broadcaster Dan Weiss, that makes him the fifth-fastest player to reach 200 blocks in a season. The only players who needed less time were David Robinson (54 games), Shaquille O'Neal (52 games), Alonzo Mourning (50 games) and Manute Bol (41 games).

As has been the case for most of the season, another Spurs loss overshadowed Wembanyama's accomplishment. This time, falling to the defending champs, 117-106, dropping to a Western Conference-worst, 14-52.

If there's a silver lining to this challenging year for the Spurs, Wembanyama is providing it on a near-nightly basis. He already has the makings of a generational talent and is well on his way to potentially winning several offseason awards with less than a season under his belt.

Per BetMGM, Wembanyama has the best odds of winning the Rookie of the Year award (-10000). Meanwhile, he has an outside shot at being named Defensive Player of the Year (+750), holding the second-best odds behind three-time winner, Rudy Gobert (-900).
