Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 119-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. After the Utah Jazz ended their eight-game winning streak on Saturday, this is their second straight defeat. However, they remain positive ahead of their upcoming schedule.
The Spurs are set to face the New York Knicks on Wednesday. It wasn't long since the two teams faced each other at the NBA Cup Finals. Wembanyama and his team lost 124-113 in the end. During that time, San Antonio's star player had just returned from a 12-game absence due to a calf strain.
Wembanyama had just recently been incorporated into the starting lineup and could bring a different element against the Knicks.
Following the Spurs' loss, Wembanyama revealed that the team is looking forward to facing the reigning NBA Cup champions. The All-Star center and the Spurs are eyeing redemption after their loss.
“Of course we’re looking forward to it. We owe them one. We owe ourselves one more than anything,” Wembanyama said.

In his career, Wembanyama has only faced the Knicks three times. The Frenchman played against New York twice during the 2023-24 season and once during the 2024-25 campaign. During that three-game span, the big man averaged 32.0 points, 15.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.0 blocks. The 7-foot-4 center has a 1-2 record against the East team.
The game between the Spurs and Knicks will be the official first game of the 2025-26 season. They will only play each other twice this season. The second match will be on March 1.
The Spurs are ready to take on the challenge that the Knicks will bring on Wednesday.
