The Golden State Warriors got off to a good start, as they dominated their season-opening showdown against the Los Angeles Lakers, 119-109. The Dubs led by as much as 17 points, with Jimmy Butler scoring 31 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

Steph Curry also had a big game, dropping 23 points, four assists, three steals and a block. He shot 6-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-9 from deep.

Making things even better for the Warriors, Curry made history in the process with his performance. According to Polymarket Hoops, the 37-year-old sharpshooter became the oldest guard to score at least 20 points in a season opener.

Curry averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 70 games last season, so it's definitely not surprising to see him drop 20 points to start the 2025-26 campaign.

Furthermore, the two-time MVP was clearly motivated entering the season. A day before the showdown with the Lakers, Curry shared a post on social media to highlight his mindset heading into his 17th year in the league.

"Year XVII #LockedIn," Curry said, while also sharing an edited video featuring highlights of himself and his Warriors teammates.

It will be interesting to see if Curry can maintain his dominant form throughout the season, especially as he and the rest of Golden State aspire to contend for a championship. Sure enough, though, they can't ask for a better start than they had against the Lakers.

The Dubs return to action on Thursday, when they host the Denver Nuggets at Chase Center.
