The Golden State Warriors have had to navigate the past couple of weeks without the services cornerstone superstar Steph Curry. The 11-time All-Star has been sidelined by a quad injury that has forced him to sit out five straight games for Golden State.
The Warriors have gone 3-2 without their star point guard, but they have managed to secure back-to-back wins after taking down the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls over the weekend. Golden State is back in action on Friday in a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the good news is that Curry is finally expected to make his highly anticipated return.
The Warriors enter Friday’s contest with a 13-12 record. It has been an up-and-down start to the season for Golden State, which has managed to hover above the .500 mark despite Curry’s extended absence. The Warriors are eighth in the Western Conference heading into their game against the Wolves.
Curry was able to increase his activity in practice throughout the week. He started individual workouts on Sunday, which built up to a full practice on Wednesday. This led to Golden State announcing Curry’s availability for Friday’s game by omitting him from the injury report against the Wolves.
Curry made an encouraging statement when asked about his health ahead of his return.
“I’m feeling great,” he said on Thursday, via Warriors reporter Nick Friedell. “I’m pretty optimistic (about tomorrow).”
Curry has played 16 games this season, averaging 27.9 points on 47.1% shooting, 3.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.3 steals in 31.1 minutes per contest. He is also knocking down 4.7 triples on a 39.1% clip.
The Warriors will host Friday’s contest against Minnesota, with tip-off from Chase Center scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET.
