The Golden State Warriors received a key injury update before Friday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
NBA reporter Shams Charania reported that Steph Curry will miss the matchup due to an ankle injury. Curry joins Draymond Green, who is resting, and Jimmy Butler, who is dealing with illness, on the inactive list.
Curry will sit out the first night of a back-to-back set, and he can potentially return for Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz. The absence leaves Golden State short-handed against a top Western Conference opponent.
The Warriors are expected to lean more on Brandin Podziemski with Curry sidelined. Podziemski has taken on a larger role in recent weeks. He responded well in Wednesday’s win over Charlotte, recording 19 points, three rebounds and three assists. His shooting and ball movement will be critical against Oklahoma City.

Curry is coming off another strong performance before the injury. He scored 26 points in the 132-125 win over the Charlotte Hornets. He shot efficiently and led the team in scoring. That outing marked his sixth straight game with more than 20 points.
Since returning from a quadriceps strain, Curry has played at a high level. He is averaging over 30 points across his last nine games. His shooting from deep remains near 40 percent. However, minor injuries have continued to affect his availability.
Golden State enters the game with an 18-16 record. The team sits third in the Pacific Division. Offense has kept them competitive most nights. Defensive lapses and injuries have caused difficulties for the team.
Curry’s health will remain a major factor as the season moves forward.
