Stephen Curry is preparing to enter season No. 17 of his illustrious NBA career. As he and the Golden State Warriors look to make a run at yet another NBA championship this season, the question of his retirement continues to rear its head.

Despite Curry still playing at a high level, averaging 24.5 points and 4.4 3-pointers made per game last season, the basketball world knows the now 37-year-old sharpshooter doesn't have an infinite amount of time left to lace up his Under Armour sneakers.

With the 2025-26 NBA season less than a month away, Curry sat down with ESPN's Malika Andrews for a one-on-one interview. A portion of the interview aired on Friday's episode of "NBA Today" on ESPN. Andrews asked Curry many things, ranging from the potential of this year's Warriors' roster to how much longer Curry anticipates playing in the NBA.

Steph Curry Answers Retirement Question

Curry appeared to give an honest answer regarding his potential retirement timeline, but he acknowledged the reality he faces as the fifteenth oldest player currently in the NBA.

"No clue. I just know it's closer than it was even yesterday...I'm trying not to put any timestamps on anything, other than that there's a sense of urgency in the now," Curry said.

Curry may not know when he's going to retire from the NBA, but he mentions to a "sense of urgency" in regards to the upcoming season. The projected starting lineup for the Warriors this season is set to contain five players of at least 30 years of age or older.

Newly acquired center, Al Horford is the eighth oldest current player in the NBA at 39 years old. The starting rotation is rounded out by Jimmy Butler (36), Draymond Green (35), and Buddy Hield (32).

While the Warriors are projected to have the oldest starting-five in the NBA this season, Curry believes this team has a "legitimate shot" at winning the championship this year. He added these comments during the same sit down conversation with Andrews.

Curry has never shied away from warming up in the public eye, often bringing his spectacular shooting drills to pregame warmups, or posting intense workouts on social media, however, Curry wasn't afraid to admit his warmups take longer than they used to on occasion.

"Acknowledging it is fun, because the more I talk about it, the more you appreciate what goes into preparing yourself. It does take a little longer to get warmed up for practice or recovery from a game may take longer," Curry said.

The four-time NBA champion holds many records, including the most made 3-pointers in a single season (402) as well as all-time (4,058), however, with his contract extension running through the 2026-27 NBA season, it appears the basketball world will have to revisit the retirement question at a future date.

While it isn't known if Curry will take the court for the Warriors' first preseason game, it is rapidly approaching. The Warriors will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in their first preseason game on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN.

Their first regular-season game will also be against the Lakers on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10:00 p.m. EDT on NBC and Peacock.
