Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry made sure to honor his brother-in-law and former teammate Damion Lee following his retirement.
The 33-year-old officially announced his retirement from basketball through Instagram on Tuesday. Lee cited the physical toll of a fifteen-year basketball journey and expressed a desire to focus on his family.
One of his biggest supporters, Curry, took to Instagram Stories to pay tribute. The four-time NBA champion shared a highlight clip of Lee’s career.
Curry shared an emotional caption for the veteran guard.
“My brother! Teammate. Friend. Maker of my nephews and niece,” he wrote. “Congrats on a helluva run. Next chapter is greater and ready for you. ”
Lee played seven seasons and recorded career averages of 7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He appeared in 315 regular-season games throughout his professional tenure.
The undrafted guard is married to Sydel Curry, the sister of Stephen and Seth Curry. He suited up for three NBA teams, including the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.
His best years came as teammates with Curry over at The Bay where he spent four seasons.
Lee reached his peak during the 2019-20 season with the Warriors. He averaged career-highs of 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in 49 games. He also won a title with Golden State in 2022.
Lee was a serviceable three-and-D option during his time in the league. He ranked third in the NBA in three-point percentage with a .445 mark during the 2022-23 season with Phoenix.
The brothers-in-law will prioritize family time together following the conclusion of Lee’s professional career.
