Stephen A. Smith admits being ‘disgusted’ by Celtics offense despite OT win against Pacers
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Stephen A. Smith is unhappy with the Boston Celtics despite their miracle win over the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He believed their offense looked “awful” and was too inconsistent, which could hurt them in the series.

Furthermore, SAS thinks the Boston Celtics are unpredictable and can’t be relied upon to perform consistently. He noted that they could easily have blown Game 1, and might struggle in future games if they don’t improve.

I'm disgusted with them because I think their offense looks awful. Somebody has got to say it so I'm gonna say it. The offense looks awful. You know if you're the Boston Celtics that you can't afford to be a bit haphazard. There has to be a model of consistency and dependency to some degree that I don't see from them. Stephen A. Smith said on First Take

To succeed, Stephen A. Smith said that the Celtics need to stay focused and avoid simple mistakes. He believes that they can’t afford to be “half-hazard” and need to show more consistency and dependability.

Overall, SAS is disappointed with the Celtics’ offense and thinks they need to improve if they want to succeed in the Eastern Conference Finals. He believed they have the potential to do well but need to be more consistent and reliable.

Stephen A. Smith on the Celtic player who needs to be fit for the C’s to win the title

Stephen A. Smith believes the Boston Celtics need Kristaps Porzingis to be healthy if they want to win the NBA Championship. Porzingis has been out with a right soleus strain since Game 4 of their first-round series against the Miami Heat and SAS thinks the C’s won’t be able to beat the winner of the Western Conference without him.

You are not beating Minnesota or Dallas in the NBA Finals without Kristaps Porzingis. Because he's seven-feet-three, he's a three-point shooter, but primarily, he's a shot blocker that allows you to depend too much on Al Horford. Listen [Jayson] Tatum, [Jaylen] Brown, [Jrue] Holiday, [Derrick] White, we get all of that. But if you can exploit the interior of Boston because you got some size and some athleticism and you got some guy who's a shot-blocker who's not in there, I think that drastically affects Boston's chances. They need him to win the chip. Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN’s First Take

Smith emphasized Porzingis’ importance as a shot blocker and his ability to take pressure off Al Horford . He acknowledged the talent of the Celtics’ other players, like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown , but thinks they need Porzingis to win the championship.

Despite Porzingis’ absence , the Celtics have been successful in the playoffs so far, and Smith predicts that they will make it to the NBA Finals. He also feels that they will win their current series against the Indiana Pacers, but notes that Indiana will give them a competitive series.
