Stephen Curry was outshone by Devin Booker in their recent matchup.

In that game, the Phoenix Suns secured a narrow 99-98 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

While Devin Booker led the Suns with a game-high 25 points, Stephen Curry struggled to find his rhythm, finishing with just 15 points.

Interestingly, the narrative of the night wasn’t just on the scoreboard, but on Curry’s feet. Amidst his current ‘sneaker free agency‘ following a departure from Under Armour, Curry took the court wearing Devin Booker’s signature shoes.

Stephen Curry says he failed to beat Devin Booker in his own shoes

The fashion choice proved to be a ‘bad-luck‘ move. After the game, Curry admitted that trying to beat Booker in his own silhouette didn’t go according to plan.

“I was trying to beat him in his own shoes. Didn’t work,” Curry joked.

He explained that the gesture was meant to honor their friendship, which deepened during their gold-medal run with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics.

“I’ve been paying tribute and just showing love to all the different eras of the sneaker game over the last couple of weeks,” Curry said.

“The idea of trying to infuse some energy into the sneaker world while I can, and the idea of me and Book [and] the relationship we’ve been able to build over the last couple years, especially since playing together at the Olympics.”

Stephen Curry and Devin Booker show contrasting outcomes in meeting expectations

However, the shoes couldn’t stop the Suns’ momentum. “It’s hard to give teams momentum, you give them belief, they start hitting shots.“

“Book started getting going off of broken plays, like there‘s a carryover effect of that” Curry analyzed.

The loss highlights a surprising trajectory for both teams this season. The Warriors, expected to be title contenders, are currently faltering with a 13-15 record, sitting in a play-in spot.

Conversely, the Suns, who many predicted would be a lottery team, are exceeding expectations. At 15-12, they now sit seventh in the West, cementing themselves as one of the NBA’s biggest surprises.
