Pat Spencer has emerged as the unsung hero for the Golden State Warriors during Stephen Curry’s recent injury absence.
Once viewed as a deep-bench option utilized primarily in non-important minutes, Pat Spencer has seized his opportunity, performing exceptionally well.
He has scored in double figures in his last four games and earned the start in the last two contests, proving he belongs in the regular rotation.
His sudden leap has not gone unnoticed. Head coach Steve Kerr recently praised the guard, revealing plans to establish Spencer as a key rotation piece and significantly, to play him alongside Curry once the superstar returns.
That return appears imminent, with Stephen Curry expected to suit up for the Golden State Warriors‘ next game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Pat Spencer over his last 4 games:
– 16.0 PPG
– 5.8 APG
– 59/75/100
– 69% TS%
– +51 +/-

Ahead of his comeback, the two-time MVP expressed excitement about sharing the backcourt with Spencer.
Curry revealed that he has already envisioned specific set-plays to utilize Spencer’s playmaking ability, allowing Curry to operate off the ball.
“[He’s] amazing to watch. We’ve seen it over the summer’s practice, and when he’s been out there in short spurts, he just has a presence about him. He just knows the game,” Curry said.
“He plays with 120% confidence every time he’s out there. As a kind of playmaker role, it was cool to see him adapt to what we needed pretty much overnight. And I think it’ll only help us as we keep moving forward.”
“I know when I’m out there, being able to play off the ball with him initiating, taking advantage of the space and all that type of stuff, it should be pretty seamless,” Curry added.
If Kerr’s plan to pair them succeeds, the Warriors may have finally found a solution to a lingering roster issue: a reliable playmaker next to their superstar.
While Curry is an elite point guard, his greatest weapon is his shooting. Pairing him with a guard who can facilitate the offense allows Curry to run off screens and exploit open space.
The Warriors found championship success using Draymond Green in this role, but recent attempts to find a backcourt partner for this specific dynamic, such as the experiments with Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder, did not fully meet expectations.

Spencer, however, looks ready for the task. While his season average sits at 3.2 assists per game, his recent production tells a different story as in the last four games he has recorded at least six assists in three of them.
Combined with his impressive 44.4% shooting from three-point range, Spencer offers a spacing threat that prevents defenses from sagging off him.
If he can maintain this level of play, the Warriors might have just unlocked the key to maximize their offense for the rest of the season.
