Stephen Curry is about to begin his 17th season with the Golden State Warriors.

After a disappointing run in the 2024-25 NBA season, the Warriors will be hoping to turn things around in the upcoming year.

For that to happen, they will need Curry at his best. Even at age 37, he remains a key focus for every defence he faces.

The usual approach is to get physical with him, but Curry has found a way around it that only LeBron James has also managed to pull off.

Brandon Payne claims Curry and LeBron have the resilience to last 82-game seasons

Both players are in the later stages of their careers, but still manage to draw attention during the offseason.

Curry’s trainer, Brandon Payne, spoke with Mark Medina of RG.org about the Warriors star working on his strength ahead of the upcoming season.

“There’s a toughness that you have to have, certainly. He possesses that. When it comes to understanding the rigors and ins and outs of the 82-game season.”

Payne went on: “I don’t know outside of LeBron James if there are any that knows better than Steph.”

Curry has built a reputation as one of America’s top players because he continues to perform at a high level despite facing constant physical play.

James is also an example of this type of player – even at age 40, he still drives into defenders in the paint for the Lakers.

Brandon Payne discusses what sets Steph Curry apart from other NBA stars

Curry and James do not just survive physical play. They handle it better than most older players in the league.

According to Payne, that resilience comes from being marked men throughout their careers.

“I think Steph and LeBron probably have an understanding that is on a level a little bit different than everybody else because they constantly have been the target, not only game-to-game but for the entire league for a long time.

“So they understand how to navigate that a lot better than I do. It’s our job to provide him with the stimulus in the offseason to be prepared for the 82 games and the playoffs,” Payne stated.

Payne also talked about preparing Curry during the offseason: “It’s our job to provide him with enough stimulus in the offseason so that he is prepared for an 82-game schedule.”

Curry has already said he will not be dunking anymore after how rough it felt last season.

It is another sign that he is thinking long-term, willing to change his approach if it means staying on the court longer.
