The saga between the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga has been ongoing since last NBA season and continues to unfold. Kuminga has remained in the headlines throughout the 2025 NBA offseason due to contract negotiation issues with the team. Additionally, trade rumours surrounding him have kept fans engaged in the saga.

Last season, Kuminga struggled with an inconsistent role within the team, and this issue has persisted into the current season. Recently, the situation became even more challenging for Kuminga as he fell completely out of the rotation for several games. Amid such turmoil, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr faced major criticism from across the league. However, in a recent interview, Kerr provided an honest response when asked about Kuminga’s situation.

“I’m just gonna to say, it’s a difficult situation. I think you guys know it. Everybody knows it. You know I’m just gonna leave it at that… We have to control what we can control and try to keep moving the ship forward. This is not an easy situation. It’s not an easy one to talk about, frankly. I try to protect everybody organizationally. And nobody’s winning right now with this situation and it’s unfortunate, but it is what it is,” Kerr said.

Kuminga has participated in 18 games for the Warriors this season, averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.

The 2025-26 NBA trade season is underway, and several trades are making waves among fans. One key player at the center of the speculation is Jonathan Kuminga. Recently, Sam Amick of The Athletic revealed that the Lakers have a genuine interest in trading for Kuminga.

“League and team sources confirmed a report that the Lakers have some interest in Kuminga, though it remains unclear if talks will unfold. The Warriors, the sources said, are aware of the intrigue and waiting to see how that situation evolves,” Via Sam Amick.

With the Kings now reluctant to give up a future protected first-round pick, the Lakers could step in and make a compelling offer to the Warriors. Meanwhile, the Warriors are currently struggling in eighth spot in the Western Conference standings, with 22 wins and 19 losses. They will play their next game of the season against the New York Knicks at Chase Center.
