Steve Kerr was once again effusive in his praise for Will Richard, who impressed him during the Warriors’ season opener.

The Golden State Warriors pulled off an impressive opening night win against the Los Angeles Lakers, thus going 1-0 to start the NBA season.

Jonathan Kuminga proved himself to the Warriors, putting up 17 points in a starting appearance few would have predicted ahead of the game.

Stephen Curry was his sensational self, scoring 23 points, while Jimmy Butler delivered a strong 31-point outing to lead the team to the win.

But it was one player who walked away with the game ball – Will Richard. And after the game, Steve Kerr gave his opinion on just how good he thought he was.

Steve Kerr shocked at how steady Will Richard looks, forgot he was a rookie

Steve Kerr spoke after the Golden State Warriors’ win over the LA Lakers, and how impressed he has been with Will Richard since the start of the season.

Richard caught Kerr’s eye during the Warriors’ preseason games, and in his NBA debut, he looked like a veteran player with how comfortable he was on the court.

“I think it was after the first couple of exhibition games. The first week of camp was just installing stuff. We didn’t really get a great look.

“But then you see him constantly making the right cut, being in the right place at the right time… That was his first NBA hoop. We gave him the game ball afterward.

“Usually, I know when it’s somebody’s first, I make sure to get the ball from the official right away. I completely forgot tonight.

“The reason I forgot is because Will looks like he is in his 7th year. He doesn’t look like a rookie. Great night for Will.”

Will Richard could cement himself into Warriors rotation

Even before the Warriors’ preseason games began, Steve Kerr was complimentary of Will Richard, identifying how hard he worked in training.

And as he got more time during games, Richard proved to Kerr that he’s a winner, earning his trust over the span of a few weeks.

But Richard’s mentality is crucial to his success, as he isn’t afraid of the big moment. This is what will earn him a spot in the Warriors’ rotation going forward.

As the season goes on, it will be interesting to see how much Steve Kerr relies on Will Richard to deliver in the big moments.
