The Golden State Warriors will be playing for their playoff lives on Wednesday evening when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

Once again, they will be without superstar Stephen Curry, who suffered a strained hamstring in Game 1 and hasn't played since.

Golden State has struggled offensively since, and even if it manages to win Game 5, it will still face a steep uphill climb moving forward.

Curry has reportedly been cleared to begin light on-court workouts, and head coach Steve Kerr said it is possible Curry will be cleared to play in Game 6, if they can force one.

“It’s a possibility he could play (Game 6).” Kerr said.

Curry had mostly played at his usual vintage level ever since the trade for six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler in February until his injury. His play was up and down in the first round of the playoffs versus the Houston Rockets, but he had big performances in Game 1, Game 3 and Game 7 to put the Warriors over the top.

The Warriors defeated Minnesota in Game 1, but without Curry, they have had trouble generating good looks and easy shots. The situation has put a lot of pressure on Butler and other Warriors players, not just offensively but also defensively.

The Warriors finished the regular season 23-8 once Butler made his debut with them, and they were thus considered legitimate championship contenders by many. Now, they have been reduced to fighting for their very survival, at least for now.
