With the Jonathan Kuminga saga over, the Golden State Warriors can focus on the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season.
The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga were in a summer-long contract stalemate which finally ended as the two sides agreed to a new deal.
The Warriors were able to add the final pieces of their roster, bringing in Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Seth Curry.
The Warriors will begin their preseason schedule on October 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Horford will be the Warriors’ four set starters.
Buddy Hield or Brandin Podziemski could slide in as the fifth starter as there is a case to be made for both players.
Hield is the more accomplished player, but Podziemski is more of a connector on offense and has reliable three-point shooting. Podziemski should get a long look during the preseason as he has already caught the attention of head coach Steve Kerr.
“Everybody looked great. I mean the guys came in and were in good shape.
They’ve been playing pick-up the last couple of weeks so it doesn’t feel like we have to work our way too far into rhythm and conditioning.
“BP [Brandin Podziemski] had an incredible day today. He’s looking more poised, more confident with his shot, staying off the refs.
“Today was NBA official day so we had three NBA refs to ref the scrimmage, which was great.
“A lot of guys looked good but BP stood out.”
Steve Kerr said the Warriors scrimmaged a ton today. He said Brandin Podziemski looked great. Jonathan Kuminga took part in about half of the scrimmaging in his first day back. pic.twitter.com/7gSuAgByF8

Kerr spoke to the media following the Warriors’ first practice session of the preseason and he suggested that Podziemski can have a big year.
“I think this is a year where he takes another step,” Kerr said.
Podziemski will likely have the opportunity to step into an increased role this season.
With the Warriors starters all in their 30s, Podziemski has a chance to emerge as a young star level player.
Kerr has faith in Podziemski’s skillset and now the 22-year-old must go out and prove it.
