After losing to the shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the week, the Golden State Warriors wanted to bounce back, but they could not, as they lost to another short-handed team, the Indiana Pacers, giving the Pacers their first win of the season.
When the Golden State Warriors lost to the Milwaukee Bucks, head coach Steve Kerr was not too worried about the result. In his mind, the team would have bounced back in the next game, which was against the Indiana Pacers.
Unfortunately for coach Kerr, the Warriors had another bad game in them. It was an underwhelming performance, as the offense looked a bit anemic. Stephen Curry scored 24 points, but apart from Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, the rest of the team struggled offensively.
This was a tough loss because most people expected the Warriors to cruise to a win. Unfortunately, the Pacers found their footing and won their first game of the season with three players scoring 25+ points.
The Warriors started the season strong with two big wins against the Los Angeles Lakers and the title-contending Denver Nuggets. They lost against a plucky Portland Trail Blazers team, but that was on the second leg of a back-to-back after the overtime thriller against Denver.
Golden State would then bounce back and get two wins against the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers earlier this week, which led to them having a superb 4-1 record to start the 2025-26 season.
Unfortunately, that did not last long because Kerr’s Warriors are now 4-3 after two consecutive losses to underdog teams. The Bucks were playing without star player Giannis Antetokounmpo, while the Pacers were playing without the majority of their NBA Finals team from a few months ago due to an injury crisis.
Now, Kerr has shown frustration with the results, believing the team could have easily won both games. That would have taken them to a 6-1 record, but now, they are back in the middle of the pack in the loaded Western Conference.
“We know the West is loaded, and it feels like we just gave away two games that if we are locked in and focused, playing the way we know to play, we should have won. We can pick up those games somewhere along the way… We have to find a way to be sharper,” Kerr said after losing to the Pacers.
“There are always tough nights during the season. This should not have been one of them. We had the day off yesterday. We didn’t shoot around today. We had plenty of rest.”

Every game counts in the stacked Western Conference. As the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder have done well to start the season with a 6-0 record. They are pulling away from the rest of the West, which means there are fewer spots to compete for in the standings.

Since the Warriors have lofty goals due to their small window, they must do well in future games. They must hold themselves accountable for this loss, considering most of the team was healthy to play.
Curry is still playing well as the superstar, but the rest of the team must do their best to bounce back as well. The 2025-26 season is still long, with the regular season lasting until April. However, the Warriors must work hard to get every win, so they can maintain their spot in the Western Conference Playoffs.
