Steve Kerr Told Buddy Hield He's Being Selfish In The Nicest Way We've Ever Seen

The Golden State Warriors blew out the Phoenix Suns 133-95 at Footprint Center on Tuesday. The Warriors were in good spirits for much of the night, so much so that head coach Steve Kerr, who was mic'd up, chose to remind Buddy Hield that he needs to pass the ball to Stephen Curry when he's open in a hilarious manner.

"Buddy, that's Steph, Steph Curry. Steph, Buddy Hield," Kerr said. "I want you guys to meet each other. Say hello to Steph. He's the greatest shooter in the history of the world, wide open... I love you, Buddy. I love you."

That was quite funny. As for which play led to Kerr feeling the need to say this to Hield, it might have been this one in the second quarter.

Tyus Jones had run over to contest Hield's shot there, leaving Curry wide open in the corner. There's no shot that's ever guaranteed to go in, but an open three for the two-time MVP from the corner is about as close as it gets.

Hield decided to shoot, though, and missed. Fortunately for the 32-year-old, Jonathan Kuminga was able to tip it back to him, and he didn't miss when given another chance.

That would end up being Hield's only made three-pointer of the night. He finished with seven points (3-8 FG), four rebounds, and one assist off the bench as the Warriors improved to 47-32.

It was another mediocre performance from Hield in a season where he played ever so well at the start. He averaged 21.1 points on 51.7% shooting from the field and 50.7% from beyond the arc in his first eight games with the Warriors, but has disappointed since then.

Hield is now averaging 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in 2024-25 while shooting 41.9% from the field and 36.9% from beyond the arc. Not only has he struggled on the court, but he has had a fair few lapses like the one in this game against the Suns.

In another game against the Suns on Dec. 28, 2024, Draymond Green cussed out Hield for not being locked in. Green angrily told the guard to wake up or go back to the bench.

Hield also got into a heated exchange with Gary Payton II in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Jan. 15, 2025. He has certainly come under the firing line a few times by now. At least Kerr wasn't too hard on Hield here.

As for Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history finished with 25 points (9-17 FG), nine rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block. The 11-time All-Star had scored three points and gone 1-10 from the field in Sunday's loss to the Houston Rockets, and this was a solid bounce-back game.

With this win, the Warriors are now just a game behind the 48-31 Los Angeles Lakers, who are third in the West. They are down at sixth, though, thanks to being in a four-way tie with the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Warriors will probably need to win out if they are to secure home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They are in action next against the San Antonio Spurs at Chase Center on Wednesday at 10 PM ET.
