Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has one of the most stacked resumes of all time.
Despite being the 50th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, Steve Kerr carved out a decent career as a player. After all, he understood his role as an elite three-point shooter.
This allowed Kerr to win three NBA Championships with the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls and two NBA Championships with the San Antonio Spurs.
But even after retiring in 2003, Kerr soon returned to the NBA, albeit in a different role.
The lethal three-point shooter landed the job as general manager of the Phoenix Suns in 2007. Considering the Suns drafted him, it wasn’t a surprise to see Kerr return to Phoenix.
In three years as an executive, the Suns went 155-91 during the regular season. They also made the post season twice, albeit without winning an NBA Championship.
However, it was obvious that being an executive wasn’t the ideal job for Kerr. Sure, he tried to trade for Stephen Curry on draft night in 2009, but Kerr was destined to become a head coach.
Well, in 2014, the Golden State Warriors named Kerr as their new head coach after parting ways with Mark Jackson.
In his first season with the Warriors, Kerr led the Dubs to the 2015 NBA Championship. In fact, the Warriors went on to win three NBA Championships by 2018.
Let’s not forget Kerr also has his name etched in history due to being the head coach of the 73-9 Warriors. Unsurprisingly, he was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year for that season
Kerr’s Warriors once again made the NBA Finals in 2019, albeit losing against the Toronto Raptors.
After a dream five-year run, coach Kerr had his first-ever losing campaign during the 2019-20 season as the Dubs finished with a 15-50 record.
Despite facing wrath over the next few years, Kerr and the Warriors once again became NBA champions in 2022, their fourth title in this era.
Today, Kerr is the highest-paid NBA coach, drawing $17.5 million in salary per year. He also found his name on the list of the NBA’s 15 greatest coaches of all time.
