For months, fans have speculated that Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee had been dating New York Knicks player OG Anunoby because of her frequent appearances at games at Madison Square Garden last season.
Lee, who moved to New York last fall after winning gold in the team event and bronze in the all-around and uneven bars at the 2024 Paris Olympics, claims she’s an avid basketball fan, and the rumors of her being romantically involved with Anunoby unexpectedly took on a life of their own after the two were seen chatting several times during her MSG visits.
In an exclusive interview with the U.S. Mirror, Lee finally broke her silence about whether or not there’s any truth to the rumors of her being in a relationship.
“Honestly, it just started off as a joke, and I feel like social media kind of just, like, took it further than that,” Lee said. “But yeah, we’re just friends, and I’m really good friends with a bunch of the guys on the Knicks team, like [Karl-Anthony Towns], and also I’m really close to [Towns’ partner Jordyn Woods] as well, so it’s cool to see them doing their thing.
“Honestly, I just enjoy watching basketball, which is why I went to most of the games. There’s nothing there. We’re just friends. I fully support all of them, and I support the Knicks.”
Lee disclosed that she became friends with Towns and his girlfriend back when she lived in Minnesota and Towns was a member of the Timberwolves.
Those friendships help her settle in after moving to NYC to further her interest in the fashion industry.
“I met Jordyn and KAT when I was in Minnesota, and when they were in Minnesota as well,” Lee added. “And then when I moved to New York, he got traded, so it was really nice to see some familiar faces in New York and just keep that friendship.”
Lee has stated she’s still undecided about whether or not she’ll compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. She has six medals in her Olympic career — two gold (all-around, Tokyo; team, Paris), one silver (team, Tokyo), and three bronze (uneven bars, Tokyo; all-around and uneven bars, Paris).
