Jalen Green is entering his first season with the Phoenix Suns after arriving in the offseason from the Houston Rockets. He was one of the key assets sent to Phoenix in the Kevin Durant blockbuster trade. The Suns, who do not control their own draft picks for the foreseeable future, are expected to try and be competitive. Phoenix has stumbled out of the gate, however, with a 1–3 start. Green is expected to serve as the secondary scoring option behind Devin Booker when he makes his debut, but questions still linger about his ability to reach elite scoring levels, his defensive consistency and whether he can clean up his shot selection.

Last season with Houston, the 23-year-old shooting guard played all 82 games and averaged 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 42.3% from the field and 35.4% from three.

Green has missed the first four games of the season recovering from a right hamstring strain suffered during the preseason. However, the Suns made a noticeable change to his status on Tuesday.

The team announced on their official injury report that Green is questionable for Wednesday’s game at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic confirmed the upgrade to his status moments later. “Jalen Green (right hamstring strain) QUESTIONABLE,” he reported on X. If Green is able to suit up, it would be his first time playing in the regular season for Phoenix and he likely would slot directly into the starting lineup.

Green has spent the entirety of his career thus far with the Rockets after being selected second overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. He has yet to take steps forward since his rookie year saw him finish fourth in Rookie of the Year voting. However, Green is expected to retain his role and minutes with the Suns and will get the opportunity to improve on both ends of the floor. His development in Phoenix will be closely watched, as the Suns look for consistency and upside from a player still searching for his breakout season.

If Green is not able to go on Wednesday against Memphis, he will get another opportunity to suit up on Friday against the Utah Jazz.
