Suns arena FanDuel lounge will cease sportsbook operations next month

 After sports gambling was legalized in Arizona, a 7,400 square-foot sportsbook called The FanDuel Sportsbook lounge opened inside the Phoenix Suns Arena to celebrate. For the past four years, the lounge has been a staple of the arena, but that time will soon end. According to The Arizona Republic’s Jason Wolf, a sign outside the sportsbook signaling its closing.

“ATTENTION CUSTOMERS: In-person wagering at the FanDuel Sportsbook located in the Phoenix Suns Arena will permanently cease at the close of business on July 24, as the space is converted to a FanDuel lounge. All payouts beyond this date can be processed via the mail-in process as highlighted on the back of your ticket.”

The lounge will still be open inside PHX Arena, but fans and others alike won’t be able to play sports wagers. Wolf highlighted that a reason for the closing could be because retail sportsbook having higher pay out winnings in four of the past six months, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming illustrating

In one of the few net positive months for FanDuel, it reported that it only had a $32,516 in adjusted gross receipts. The limited income the location generated put its relevance into question and eventually leading to the decision to foreclose the sportsbook location.
