Suns Get Devin Booker Update Amid Head Coaching News

The Phoenix Suns are expected to have one of the busier offseasons in the NBA, although not for the best of reasons. After missing the playoffs despite boasting three maximum-contract players, the Suns failed to make the playoffs and will have many roster (and staffing) choices to make.

The Suns are expected to trade away Kevin Durant, try to deal Bradley Beal, and must find a new head coach. Franchise cornerstone Devin Booker has also been included in mock trades and rumors, although so far the organization has not placed him on the trade block.

A recent report suggests that Booker is the centerpiece of the team both now and moving forward.

Suns Will Listen to Booker's Input

The Suns will likely trade Durant, but they must find a head coach. They have, apparently, narrowed it down to five candidates, none of whom have been an NBA head coach before.

In an effort to build a winner around Booker, the Suns will give him a say in the hire.

"Devin Booker has had a level of involvement with candidates in this stage of interviews, this also shows Mat Ishbia's loudly stated determination to keep Booker in place as the team's cornerstone," reported insider Marc Stein.

Booker has played for seven head coaches already in his career and has experienced limited team success.

Booker being included in the coaching search shows, very clearly, that the Suns see him as a valuable piece moving forward.

In the event that they receive multiple offers for Durant this summer, perhaps Booker will be involved in deciding which package to accept, allowing him to build a roster and coaching staff around him.
