Suns, Kevin Durant Get Major Update on Thursday

The Phoenix Suns, according to every reputable source, have been planning to trade Kevin Durant this offseason. The Houston Rockets have emerged as the most likely suitor, and the Suns seem hell-bent on getting the tenth overall pick back from Houston.

However, the Rockets are in a pretty comfortable position. With prime draft assets and elite young talent, they can simply stand still this offseason and develop internally, leading to some reports that the Suns have dropped their asking price.

Those rumors, at least according to one expert, are "laughable."

The Suns, initially, demanded three first-round picks and a talented young player for Durant. That was seen as too much, given his age, injury history, and contract, although Phoenix should still be able to get a haul for KD.

Apparently, the Suns and Rockets have had some informal talks about the deal, at least according to The Athletic's Kelly Iko. Apparently, that has not been the case, depending on which journalist you find more reputable.

It makes sense that the Suns would try to build a culture centered on a coach before they trade Durant. After all, if the Rockets (for example) off Reed Sheppard and the San Antonio Spurs offer Stephon Castle, maybe having a coach in place to help make that call would be the smart thing to do before pulling the trigger on a deal.

Regardless, Durant is expected to be traded early in this offseason, and there are plenty of suitors who make sense for the former MVP.
