Suns' Landry Shamet misses practice with foot injury

The Phoenix Suns finished the 2021-22 NBA regular season comfortably atop the Western Conference standings and, thus, are waiting to learn who they'll face in the opening round of the playoffs between the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers, who are battling in Friday's do-or-die play-in game.

Phoenix shared some unfortunate news for fans ahead of the weekend.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and Jake Anderson of 98.7 FM Arizona's Sports Station, Suns guard Landry Shamet didn't practice Friday because of a left foot injury. Shamet's status for Sunday's Game 1 versus either the Pelicans or Clippers is understandably in question.

"Injuries are a part of it," Suns head coach Monty Williams said of the situation. "We're not sure the severity of it. He just didn't practice today and that's all we have to report. But we're built for situations like this. ... We just have to deal with stuff as it pops up."

During the regular season, Shamet appeared in 69 games and made 14 starts, and the 25-year-old averaged 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. The AP adds that guard Aaron Holiday would likely be the next man up in the rotation if Shamet misses any time.

Holiday joined the Suns via a trade from the Washington Wizards in February and averaged 6.8 points across 22 games with his current employer.
