There is currently a lot of concern surrounding Devin Booker’s status after he injured his ankle in Friday’s 110-103 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Booker left the game in the third quarter after tweaking his ankle.
The four-time All-Star was down on the ground for a considerable period after stepping on the foot of Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu. Booker had to be helped to the locker room, and it was clear that he was in significant pain. The Suns ruled the 6-foot-5 guard for the rest of the game.
Phoenix is back in action on Sunday in a home game against the Miami Heat. The team announced Booker’s injury status for the upcoming matchup.
Booker finished Saturday’s loss with 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and five triples in 28 minutes of action. The two-time All-NBA guard was having a big night before being forced to leave the game with an injury.
The bad news for the Suns is that Booker was spotted on crutches after the game. The Suns have not provided the full details of Booker’s injury, but the fact that he was on crutches is a considerable cause for concern.
Phoenix has not revealed how much time Booker is expected to miss. However, he will sit out at least one game. The Suns announced on Saturday that the 29-year-old has officially been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Heat due to a right ankle sprain.
This does not come as a surprise, considering the news about Booker being on crutches as he left the arena on Saturday. Grayson Allen, Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin are expected to take on more minutes with Booker sidelined.
It is worth noting that Jalen Green is questionable to play against Miami. Green just returned after being out for more than two months with a hamstring injury. He also exited Friday’s game against the Hawks with tightness in the same hamstring.
Friday’s loss to Atlanta was Phoenix’s first defeat in its last four games. They will be eager to get back in the win column against the Heat on Sunday. The Suns enter that matchup with a 27-18 record. As of writing, they rank sixth in the Western Conference.
