Suns Make Major Decision on Jalen Green After Trading Kevin Durant to Rockets

The Kevin Durant era in Phoenix is officially over, as the Suns dealt the soon-to-be 37-year-old superstar to the Houston Rockets for a return package highlighted by offensive dynamo Jalen Green.

Green, who is 6-feet, 4-inches and 180 pounds of raw athleticism, will be joined in the desert by Dillon Brooks and whomever the Suns select with the No. 10 overall pick in Wednesday's draft, which the Rockets included in the trade finalized just hours ahead of the NBA Finals Game 7 matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. Houston also sent Phoenix five second-round picks in the transaction.

The Suns now face a decision on Green, who will play next season at 23 years old. They can either try to move him for more assets or keep him through his early 20s as part of a dual offensive engine alongside perennial All-Star Devin Booker.

Phoenix had apparently already made its call on Green less than an hour after acquiring him.

Green is incredibly young to be entering his fifth NBA campaign in 2025-26, but has shown elite offensive upside since joining the league. He averaged 21 points per game in 32.9 minutes of court time last season to go along with 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 0.9 steals.

His career points per game average is 20.1, with a career high of 22.1 points per contest coming during the 2022-23 campaign. Green is also something of an ironman, starting in all 82 games throughout each of the past two regular seasons.

Green is under contract through the next three years at a total amount of $105.3 million. That deal includes a $36 million player option ahead of the 2027-28 campaign.
