The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft is only a day away and the Phoenix Suns enter it with two selections in the first round.
Of course, the Suns only held the 29th overall pick in the draft until Sunday when they acquired the 10th overall pick, which they originally owned, from the Houston Rockets in the Kevin Durant trade.
With the Suns entering a rebuild after trading Durant to Houston, they now have two picks in the first round to upgrade their roster around Devin Booker and Jalen Green.
In a recent mock draft by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, he has Phoenix selecting BYU star Egor Demin with the 10th overall pick.
“Demin is an exceptional playmaker, and he could ultimately become a reliable 3-point shooting threat off the ball after consistent talk from various league personnel about his jumper looking very smooth and consistent in workouts,” Siegel wrote. “His 6-foot-8 frame and 6-foot-10 wingspan are ideal for the Suns. Not to mention, he comes from an NBA system already, as BYU head coach Kevin Young was the Suns' associate head coach from 2021-2024.”
Demin burst onto the scene in his freshman season at BYU last year as proved that he was going to be a potential lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
Last season, the 19-year-old Russian guard averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 41.2% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range.
Of course, Demin did struggle with his outside shooting at BYU but it is expected, like Siegel mentioned, that he will be able to improve on his three-point numbers in the NBA.
Demin would give the Suns a true point guard due to his impressive court vision and playmaking skills, though he did struggle with turnovers at time during his freshman season at BYU.
Despite this, Demin would be a massive upgrade to the point guard position for the Suns, which is a position that they need to improve on entering next season.
