Mark Williams scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Phoenix Suns held off Anthony Edwards’ 40-point outburst to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 108–105 on Monday night, snapping Minnesota’s five-game winning streak.
Collin Gillespie added 19 points and Dillon Brooks posted 18 for the Suns, who controlled this rematch far more comfortably than their dramatic comeback win on Nov. 21. Phoenix never trailed by more than two in its final tune-up before Wednesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal at Oklahoma City.
Edwards was nearly unstoppable, shooting 15 of 21, and Julius Randle added 21 points. But Minnesota got little else: Naz Reid went 2-for-12 off the bench, and Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo each finished 1-for-7.
Rudy Gobert had 15 points and eight rebounds before being ejected in the third quarter for a flagrant foul.
Tied 84–84 entering the fourth, the Suns broke the game open with a 14–3 run to go up 98–87. The Timberwolves closed the gap late and had a chance to tie, but McDaniels missed a corner 3 with 3.7 seconds left.
