Suns trade KD in Paul Pierce’s proposed blockbuster deal

It seems like not a day can go by anymore without the Suns being involved with some hypothetical trade. The league knows that Phoenix is getting desperate and are going to need to see results soon, or may be forced to break up their core. Most trade rumors right now involve the Suns finding a way to shed Bradley Beal’s contract, while landing Miami star Jimmy Butler. Paul Pierce is now the latest NBA voice to throw his proposed Phoenix trade out there.

Only this time, he has them trading away Kevin Durant.

During this weeks episode of The Ticket and The Truth podcast, Pierce began talking about players that need a fresh start and then said it was time for Durant to move on from the Suns. The first team he thought would make the right fit, was OKC. A return to the Thunder does seem poetic and it is even theoretically possible with the trade he suggested built around Chet Holmgren. The Thunder would have to throw in a few more contracts that add up to around $30M to make the deal work, and maybe a few draft picks as well, but it is possible.

The question is, would either team do it?

The Thunder love their young core of players built around league MVP favorite SGA. With a 37-8 record, it would be hard to imagine a situation where they decided to make a move to this level. Not to mention it would take the Suns basically admitting its time to hit the reset button, which they don’t appear to be ready to do just yet.
