The Minnesota Timberwolves are competing at the highest level of the NBA, which means their depth is tested every game. For most of the season, they ran a primary rotation of eight players, but they always needed more players to help them.
That is where Terrence Shannon Jr. comes in because he proved he is a fantastic player to count on during the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
As a rookie, Shannon knew he had to work hard to get a chance at playing for the Timberwolves. He kept his head down and worked towards carving out a role for himself in coach Chris Finch's rotation.
Shannon played sporadic minutes throughout the season, but he kept himself relevant enough to stay in Finch's mind. That was why he was the first player Finch chose to exceed his usual eight-man rotation during the postseason.
Even as an older rookie, Shannon needed the team to support him. Thankfully, the Timberwolves are always a cohesive unit ready to help each other led by Anthony Edwards.
Shannon knew that working hard in practice wouldn't go unnoticed because the team would appreciate him. That paid off for him because he earned a regular spot late in the postseason.

That will likely translate to more minutes in the 2025-26 season as the Timberwolves look to cement themselves as a top team in the Western Conference. The team does not want to be good in the second half of the season, as they want to be more consistent.
"These are guys that I came in with, so I feel like we built a bond together to where like I can ask any of these guys for something if I need help with something. I care about every guy that’s on this team," Shannon said about the Timberwolves.
For a significant part of the season, coach Finch was desperate to have more energy in the rotation. Inserting Shannon was always his answer because he always played with the urgency to uplift the team.
Timberwolves fans should expect this to keep happening in the 2025-26 season because Shannon will probably have a bigger role.

The young wing player out of Illinois will be ready for all the opportunities that come his way. Minnesota will likely shuffle the roster, but Shannon will work towards earning his role and proving his worth to coach Finch.
