DSJ Quick Take: Texas Legends to Host Inaugural College Classic

The Texas Legends, the NBA G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, announced Tuesday that they will host the first Texas Legends College Classic at Comerica Center in Frisco from Dec. 18-21. Eight Division I men’s basketball programs will play eight games across the four-day event.

  • What happened? The Legends announced an eight-team, eight-game college event at Comerica Center as part of a push to expand basketball programming at the arena.
  • Who is playing? Colorado State, Nevada, Florida Atlantic, Loyola Chicago, San Francisco, George Washington, Utah State and Tulsa, with each team playing twice against a rotating opponent.
  • Why does it matter? The Classic gives the Legends a marquee non-G League draw in December and puts Division I basketball in front of a Frisco audience that has not had a regular college event at Comerica Center.
  • What’s next? Ticket information, game times and additional event details have not been announced, and the American Heart Association will serve as the official charitable partner.

FRISCO, Texas — The Texas Legends, NBA G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, announced on Tuesday that they will be hosting the inaugural Texas Legends College Classic at Comerica Center in Frisco this December.

Taking place on December 18-21 of this year, Texas will host eight Division I men’s basketball teams across eight games as part of the Legends’ “commitment to expanding premier basketball opportunities at Comerica Center while providing fans with access to high-level collegiate competition.”

In addition, the American Heart Association will serve as the event’s official charitable partner. The partnership will aim to promote heart health and support its awareness during the weekend.

As of now, no ticket information, game times or additional event details are available. That said, we do know who’s playing and on what days.

Who’s Playing?

December 18’s games will include Colorado State versus Nevada and Florida Atlantic against Loyola Chicago. On the 19th, Comerica Center will host San Francisco versus George Washington and Utah State against Tulsa.

The next two days will keep the same teams, flipping the matchups. Colorado State will take on Florida Atlantic, and Nevada will face Loyola Chicago on December 20. On the final day of the weekend, San Francisco will match up with Tulsa and Utah State will play George Washington.

Texas will likely aim to make the Legends College Classic a tradition in time, expanding reach and drawing new eyes to the G League affiliate.
