The '5+ NBA championships' quiz

Happy 50th birthday to 15-time NBA All-Star and All-NBA and All-Defensive selection, five-time NBA champion, three-time Finals MVP, two-time regular season MVP and 1997-98 Rookie of the Year, Tim Duncan!

Drafted first-overall out of Wake Forest in the 1997 NBA Draft, Duncan was a can’t-miss prospect that absolutely didn’t. Taking the reins from Hall of Fame big-man David Robinson in San Antonio, Duncan started all 82 games his rookie year while averaging 21.1 points and 11.9 rebounds.

Duncan got his first ring with legendary head coach Gregg Popovich in 1998-99, averaging 23.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks-per-game in the playoffs.

Duncan spent his entire 19-year career in San Antonio and was one of the most consistently productive big men in NBA history. He racked up eight seasons averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, with eight in his first eight seasons. He also averaged a double-double in 12 different campaigns, and won back-to-back MVP awards in 2000-01 and 2001-02.

He retired after the 2015-16 season with career averages of 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks-per-game to go with what has to be one of the most tightly-packed trophy cabinets of any player in NBA history. He was inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2020.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Duncan is one of 26 players in NBA history with at least five championships to his name. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
