The Los Angeles Lakers have the potential to contend for the NBA Championship for years.
With LeBron James soon turning 41 years old, there’s a chance that he either retires or leaves the Los Angeles Lakers next summer.
However, on a positive note, the Lakers already have their next cornerstone superstar in Luka Doncic.
Additionally, Doncic already has a solid No. 2 option, and it’s none other than Austin Reaves, who is having the best year of his NBA career.
Aside from dominating on the hardwood, the Doncic-Reaves duo is often seen poking fun at each other.
Be it making fun of each other during postgame interviews or having small competitions on the court, Reaves and Doncic have done it all.
Evidently, they have made a strong bond, but what was the start of their amazing friendship? Well, Reaves revealed the secret during an interview with ESPN analyst Dave McMenamin.
“I think it was when he signed an extension and then they went to Vegas for Backstreet Boys.I was invited, but I was in China at the time. I had posted his extension, he commented, ‘Thanks for coming to Vegas,'” Reaves said.
He added: “The joke and spirit that he had, I can tell at that moment we would have a good relationship.”
Now, that’s what you call an excellent start to a partnership that should last for years, at least that’s what the Laker Nation will hope.
Following their most recent loss against the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers have slipped to a 19-9 record in the Western Conference.
A key reason behind the Lakers’ recent slump is the absence of Doncic and Reaves due to injuries. After all, the dynamic duo is averaging a combined 61.4 points per game this season.
More importantly, in the 16 games that Reaves and Doncic have played together, the Lakers have a sensational 12-4 record.
While Reaves returned to the team with a minutes restriction against the Suns, Doncic is now expected to be back during the Lakers’ Christmas Day clash against the Houston Rockets.
